Pet moving services? The hardest thing to figure out when preparing for pet moving is getting things organized in a calm manner, as moving the family’s indoor pets are the worst animals to move. This is due to the simple fact they have lived indoors and have never ventured outside very often, other than maybe the back yard. But they really become stressed when they see their favorite scratching post being removed from the living room, or the couch pillow for snoozing is being placed in a packing box. Keep them calm if possible and remember some simple tips when preparing for pet moving services.
Provide proper identification and the required license tags for the relocation area in case the animal becomes lost. This is done in the form of a microchip with the microchip ID on the certificates, with the date of the chip’s identification insert. A chip implant of ISO 11784 or 11785 readable MicroChip is usually required to be implanted by the family vet. If they do not have this particular type, Air Animal’s Overnight Express will deliver it to the vet, at the USD price of $95.00 per chip plus shipping and handling. Usually, a blood test is required for two weeks or so after the implant for purposes of a FAVN-OIE Rabies Antibody blood test.
Go to the family vet before leaving, at a minimum of six months before leaving by air or ship to another country. Get a copy of the animal’s medical history to bring along for the new vet or vet services, making sure all the information is current for one year for vaccinations, rabies, shots and routine worming. The process of the rabies shot should be on the same day as the chip implant and signed by the vet in a color other than black. A health certificate signed by the vet along with getting a rabies vaccination certificate is two mandatory requirements when moving from one location to another. The health certificate says the animal is in good health, while the rabies certificate says when and where the rabies shot was given and if it is current. Many countries will also require a Pet Travel Certificate as a critical piece of information.
If the animals become nervous or their behavior begins to change, that is normal as they sense that something is amiss and they do not like it ONE BIT. Stress will set in as they sense you are becoming stressed so try to stay calm while boarding or traveling them during quiet times. Most professional pet moving services do not allow sedatives for the animal, maintaining the animal’s safety and protection, instead preferring pre-flight or pre-moving conditioning of the animal. If they are a very excitable or hyper animal, talk to the vet about the best approach for moving them, especially if they have not ever traveled much. Placing them in a crate in an air-conditioned car with a light throw over it may help if traveling in-state while having a family member sit beside them and talking in a mild and gentle manner for the trip’s duration.
The average person will never need pet moving services until it is time to move with a pet, they work for pet moving services, or someone has mentioned it to them. But remember, whether the animals are traveling by air across the country or across the states, the welfare and safety of the animal is a priority. There are only two types of animals that are moved—an experienced traveler and a first-time traveler.
